The AI-based construction of the Gate of Stars has gradually started, announcing the establishment of 5 large data centers in the United States

The military competition for artificial intelligence (AI) computing power continues to rise. ChatGPT developers OpenAI, cloud giant Oracle and Japanese technology group SoftBank jointly announced on the 23rd that it will expand five new AI data centers in the United States to accelerate the construction of the basic facilities of the Stargate project.
The initial goal of the Star Door Project was to spend up to $500 billion to build cutting-edge AI-based facilities. The importance of the plan is recognized by the high-level political level in US. US President Trump has hosted a meeting with the executive director of top technology companies in January 2025 to officially launch this private investment initiative. In addition, as AI has been seen by Trump and many technology companies as the primary task of the country and business, these companies are investing a lot of billions of dollars in funding to build the necessary computer computing centers to provide computing power for this overwhelming technology.
According to the statement released by OpenAI, these new data center expansion plans, along with Oracle and OpenAI's existing expansion in Abilene, Texas, and the projects being carried out with CoreWeave, will bring the total capacity of the Star Gate's data center to nearly 7GW in the next three years. To achieve this big goal, the total investment in the next three years will exceed US$400 billion. OpenAI Executive Director Sam Altman clearly pointed out the importance of computing power in a statement, saying that AI can only realize its promises if we build computing power that can provide them with power.
As for the five new locations of the International Gate, all of which are focused on many local states in the United States. First, OpenAI and Oracle have three cooperation points, including: Shackelford County, Texas, Dona Ana County, New Mexico, and an unopened location in the Midwest of the United States. Secondly, OpenAI's cooperation points with Silver and its affiliated companies include Lordstown, Ohio, Milam County, Texas, etc.
OpenAI said that this massive wave of construction is not only a technological innovation, but also a significant economic benefit, and it is expected to directly create 25,000 job vacancies on the spot. In terms of funds, OpenAI and its partners plan to use debt financing to rent AI chips required for Star International project. It is worth mentioning that before the release of this expansion news, NVIDIA (Nvidia) has stated that it will invest up to US$100 billion in OpenAI and promised to provide it with the chip supply required for the data center.
As technology manufacturers including OpenAI and its main supporter Microsoft are investing billions of dollars into data centers to support key generative AI services such as ChatGPT and Copilot, AI technology has extended from pure business applications to the national strategic level. Due to the core role of AI in sensitive areas such as national defense, and China is striving to pursue the development of AI technology, this new technology has become the highest priority in the eyes of the Trump administration. Technology companies' unprecedented investment in computing infrastructure is responding to this strategic demand from the political and military fields.
