Owen: I don’t blame Liverpool for not signing me back, but the fans hate me very much
Michael Owen was interviewed recently. He said that it was Liverpool who was unwilling to sign him back, not that he did not want to go back.
Owen revealed that after playing for Real Madrid and Newcastle, he tried to return to Liverpool many times, but failed.
He said: "If you know the inside story, I called Rogers every year after leaving Newcastle. It was Liverpool who refused to accept me back. At that time, the team had forwards such as Suarez and Torres, which was completely in line with the laws of football. I have no complaints about this, but I did beg the club to 'please sign me' every year. In theory, I could have accused Liverpool of breaking their promise to sign me back, but I chose to let go. On the contrary, it was the fans who were resentful about this."
