My puppy is breathing fast and has a stomach that rises and falls quickly. What’s going on?
If our puppy has shortness of breath, it usually causes us to panic. This is not because everyone is overreacting, but because the puppy's behavior makes us feel uncomfortable, as if it is stuck in its throat. Today, the editor will tell you why puppies have rapid breathing and rapid stomach heaving.
1. The weather is hot
Dogs do not have sweat glands and cannot sweat to cool down. Therefore, when the weather is hot, they will stick out their tongues to dissipate heat, resulting in shortness of breath and rapid belly heaving. In this regard, the owner can move the dog to a ventilated place, cool down the dog by blowing fans, air conditioners, etc., and put some water around the dog so that it can replenish water in time.
2. Heat stroke
If a dog suffers from heat stroke because the weather is too hot, or the head is exposed to direct sunlight for a long time, it will also suffer from shortness of breath and rapid stomach rise and fall. The owner can measure the dog's temperature. If the dog's temperature is indeed too high, it is recommended to immediately use alcohol or a warm towel to wipe the dog's foot pads, ears, groin and other places with less hair to help the dog dissipate heat, and then send it to a pet hospital immediately for rescue.
In daily life, owners must always pay attention to whether the dog is uncomfortable with the indoor temperature. It is best not to take the dog out for activities when it is hot to avoid heat stroke or cold.
3. Vigorous exercise
If the puppy has just finished strenuous exercise, such as running, jumping, playing wildly with its owner, etc., it is a normal physiological phenomenon to experience shortness of breath and rapid belly rise and fall. This is because the puppy's exercise causes the heartbeat to accelerate. In this case, the owner does not need to worry too much. Let the dog rest for a while and it will return to normal soon.
4. Suffering from respiratory diseases
If the puppy has shortness of breath and rapid stomach rise and fall in a calm state, it is necessary to consider whether it has a respiratory disease. It usually also shows symptoms such as depression, sneezing, runny nose, loss of appetite, coughing, etc. In severe cases, it may have symptoms such as difficulty breathing, hemoptysis, and even death from suffocation. Therefore, once the owner discovers that the dog has the above symptoms, he should immediately conduct an examination to determine the specific cause and then carry out corresponding treatment.
