The dog's estrus period is usually about 15 days. The female dog will have a estrus period after sexual maturity, and at this time it will show signs of uneasiness and loss of appetite. The most obvious feature is vulva bleeding. But the amount of bleeding varies depending on the dog's species. Some dogs do not bleed at all and enter the estrus without realizing it. This situation is mostly small dogs. Some dog breeds have low bleeding and the dog will lick it off by itself, which is difficult to distinguish, so the owner should observe carefully.

Usually, each dog is in heat approximately twice a year, and it is mainly concentrated in warm spring and autumn. When a pet dog is in estrus for the first time, it means that it has sexually matured, and when it is in normal estrus for the second time, it means that the dog can engage in normal mating and breeding offspring. Of course, if you don’t plan to let your pet dog breed offspring, then you must take good care of the pet dog when it is in heat, don’t let the dog sneak out of the outdoors, and don’t give it a chance to mate. The estrus period of a female dog can be divided into three stages. This period that requires careful care of the owner lasts for about one month:

Pre-estrus period: Pre-estrus period refers to the period from the time of bleeding to the time when it is started to mate, which is generally 7-10 days. During this period, the eggs are close to maturity, and the secretion of hormones in the egg cells also increases, manifesting as redness and swelling of the vulva and bloody mucus flowing out of the vagina. But at this time the female dog was not allowed to mating.

Erosity period: The estrus period usually lasts for about a week. The vulva continues to swell and become soft, and the vagina secretes dark red mucus. The color gradually fades, and the amount of bleeding will also decrease or stop bleeding. If you touch the buttocks by artificially touching the female dog, the female dog will deflect its tail to the left and right. At this time, the female dog allows the male dog to mate. 2-8 days after entering the estrus period, the female dog begins to ovulate, which is a time to easily mate.

Later estrus: In late estrus, the external symptoms of the female dog disappear, the labia gradually return to normal, the dog's temperament is quiet, the mucus secreted by the vagina decreases, and bleeding stops (usually lasts about 2 months). If the female dog is pregnant, it enters the pregnancy period.

How should dogs take care of during estrus?

1. You can buy physiological pants specially made for dogs in pet stores and just put them on them.

2. If there is no condition, you can use the briefs worn by the child, then cut a hole in the back of the dog's tail to reveal the tail, and then use the sanitary tampon used by the human.

Puppy will have a decrease in resistance and will not have too much appetite during menstruation. At this time, we need to pay attention to:

1. Pay attention to keeping the puppy warm and do not let the puppy catch a cold, especially in winter.

2. Puppies have a long menstrual period and need nutrition like humans, especially blood-tonifying foods.

3. Pay attention to the cleaning of the puppy to avoid infecting the reproductive system. You can clean it with warm water every day.

4. Try to avoid strenuous exercise and do not eat irritating foods.
